Allan has worked in the arts and cultural sector for nearly 20 years across a wide
variety of roles from front of house management to marketing, education to events
with extensive experience within the theatre sector having originally started off in a
career in dance.
Over the past few years this has developed into a more specific focus in ticketing,
implementation and venue management, working to solve problems and facilitate
change to meet organisational needs.
Allan’s current position at National Museums Liverpool allows him to put this interest
and experience into action on a daily basis during what is an exciting time for the
organisation as it looks to build on its recent exhibition successes.
If you build it they will come/From zero to hero
National Museums Liverpool is a group of 8 museums across 6 venues in Liverpool and welcomed nearly 4m visitors in 2018/19.
In 2018 National Museums Liverpool hosted China’s First Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors, an exhibition that would bring over 600,000 visitors through its doors across an 8 month period and far exceed all expectations on what could be achieved through bringing
this exhibition to the city.
Prior to this, there was no in venue ticketing operation or infrastructure in the organisation with previous exhibitions being managed through 3rd parties.
This case study presentation will cover how National Museums Liverpool worked through a very tight deadline to procure, build and launch and new in house ticketing operation alongside an on sale for one of the most high profile touring exhibitions in the world.
The legacy to this project is that a full time Box Office operation was established that now operates a 7 day a week booking and information service across a wide range of exhibitions and events and forms a key part in the organisations strategic and financial
plans for the future. The presentation will show what the impact on bringing this operation into the organisation has been and how we plan to build on this momentum in the coming years.
