“TPC2019 will be my third Ticketing Professionals Conference. It’s become a highlight of the year. Having joined the Education Panel last year, it’s been great to be involved again this year. This year the quality of papers submitted was a real step up and picking just three top picks is a tough call!

My first pick is ‘So you’ve scanned me, now what?’ which will be presented by Martin from Activity Stream. As a data geek, I love hearing how venues are using data to better understand their audiences and their behaviours, and how you can use that data to make peoples’ visits extra special. Scanned entry data isn’t usually analysed or thought about, so it’ll be great to hear how Martin and the team are using this data.

I’ll be starting day two with ‘Your Box Office team are more valuable than your CEO’, presented by Sam Biscoe. Having worked in lots of box offices, I couldn’t agree with Sam more – no one in your venue spends more time talking to your customers than the Box Office team. I’m looking forward to hearing how Nuffield Southampton Theatres have got their Box Office team involved in decision making and made the most of all those skills, knowledge and audiences insights the team have.
My last pick is The Kano Model with Ben Curthoys. Understanding how software is developed, and how product owners prioritise functionality can be really empowering. We’ve all been frustrated when the one thing we want in our ticketing system isn’t there, but there’s often a reason behind why it’s missing. If you’re interested in how your ticketing system came to be, and how you can have an impact on future development, make sure you go to this session.
Well, picking just three sessions is hard! There are also some great sessions on how to implement change, consumer psychology, how to be more efficient, when not to discount tickets and why we should be more like airlines. There’s a lot to choose from!
