As we roll ever closer to #TPC2018 – Ian Taylor of bigdog Live gave us his session picks
With #TPC2018 just around the corner we caught up with ticketing consultant John Finn for his top picks.
It’s always a sign that spring is just around the corner when I start trying to work out how on earth I’m going to cram in every session I want to see at TPC. How amazing to have this ticketing industry ‘hive-brain’ gathering like swallows in my home town of Birmingham!
The new season is the perfect time of year to start thinking afresh about what’s going to be important in the industry this year and Rob Williams‘ Closing Keynote ‘Failure is not an Option’ will be a fascinating backward glance and then look ahead at what future innovation may hold for us.
But it’s not all about the tech for me (sorry Rob), that perennial, GDPR, is uppermost in my mind and I’m really looking forward to hearing what Michael Nabarro and Katy Raines have to add to the debate on consent – it promises to be a hot topic at a critical time.
The theme of customer experience is always on my ‘hit list’ and there are number of great sessions to choose from covering all aspects of the subject. I’m particularly looking forward to hearing Lyndsey Jackson leading a stimulating panel debate on The Future of Customer Service.
I’ve also been thinking a lot lately about how, with less and less person to person interactions, organisations need to find ways to express themselves in unique, personal and engaging ways through their digital presence. So I’ll be seeking out Jake Grimley who will be sharing his experiences of how this might work in a re-imagined mobile-first world.
But the key decision, the one that’s keeping me awake is of course the most important one – which delicious gin cocktail will I be opting for this year?
We are just around the corner from TPC2018, but today marks us as just 13 months away from TPC2019!
After two great (and one in a few weeks time) conferences, we have signed to head back to Birmingham in 2019.
#TPC2019 will take place on the 21st and 22nd March 2019 at the ICC.
The feedback from delegates at #TPC2016, #TPC2017 and we hope from #TPC2018, along with the superb conference and exhibition facilities and support we have from the ICC made it an easy choice.
That’s about that, as announcements go, but pop it in your diary, put a line in your budget and hopefully a great time at #TPC2018 in a few weeks will help us convince you to come back in 2019!

- Scholarships are only open to venues or organisations who sell their own tickets or admissions, it is not open to suppliers or agencies
- The award will be for a full conference registration place worth (£239.99+VAT) recipients will need to arrange their own transportation and accommodation
- Awards cannot be given to existing registrants for #TPC2018
- Awards will be decided by a panel from Seatgeek and Ticketing Professionals Ltd
- The Closing date for entrants is the 26th February at 12 noon
- The decision of the awards panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into
As we edge closer to #TPC2018 we caught up with Rachael Easton of Tessitura Network to ask for her top session picks.
Inspiration. Data. Leadership.
These are three themes that really stood out to me while poring over the Ticketing Professionals schedule for 2018. It got me thinking that they are three important pillars of any successful business and that is why the Ticketing Professionals Conference has fast become one of the most relevant and interesting places to discuss ticketing (and much more) in the UK right now.
Following on from last year’s success, this year promises to deliver more sessions showcasing best practice, more panels to help you think outside of the box and challenge the status quo, as well as creating that crucially important “blue sky thinking” space for you to have those networking conversations and new ideas that it’s tricky to find time to generate in our day to day.
My top picks starts off with the opportunity to be inspired by Bill Hogg who will open conference talking about how our we motivate and inspire our teams to ensure we are all part of high performing businesses – what better way to kick it all off?
Secondly, some of you may be aware that I have a passion for using transactional data to inform business decisions, so I am obviously really looking forward to seeing Tim Baker and Debbie Richards. As always, they are on a mission to encourage us to all think about segmentation and pricing as part of our business planning, including practical ways to bring data (and therefore our customers) to the forefront of our business discussions.
Finally, the TPC team have brought together a panel of senior ticketing executives to talk about what is next for ticketing – the challenges and the opportunities. It’s always useful to get outside of your own bubble and mix it up with some opinionated experts, so I hope to see you at the Leadership in Ticketing panel that is being moderated by Maureen Andersen and Dawn Farrow.
It promises to be a fantastic couple of days and I am looking forward to meeting you (if I haven’t already), catching up with you (if I have), sharing ideas and learning more about this wonderful (and sometimes nutty) business of ticketing.

The Challenge of Finding New Solutions and Innovations
The World of innovation applies as much to the ticketing industry as any other.
We hear the words disruptor and innovator attached to almost every tech firm, product or service.
In his session Rob will look back at predicted industry trends, assess if they were false starts or the start of something amazing, as well as looking forward to innovations and trends our industry must evaluate and prepare for.
Do we need to make sure we try everything new, even if it could or probably will fail, to ensure we remain technologically up-to-date and maximise the efficiencies it may bring ourselves or our customers?

With just over four weeks to go until Ticketing Professionals 2018 kicks off, it’s great to see that numbers continue to grow.
Thanks to a few registrations coming in over the weekend, we are now expecting more than 300 ticketing and technology professionals to descend on Birmingham on the 15th and 16th of March.
As well as the usual great mix of venues and roles, we also welcome people from across Europe, as well as Canada and the United States.
This mix is not just in delegates, as many of our International delegates will also take to the stage to share their experience and knowledge.
